Scott Davis’ RV-14 | Driftwood Ranch Airpark (XA86), Weatherford, TX RV-14 #140702

Scott Davis just flew his RV-14 for the first time. Here’s his story:

After nearly 6 years of work in AZ and TX I finally completed and flew N892SL. As a retired USAF F-16 and current Southwest Airlines pilot it was the most exciting flight of my life. Thankfully, it was uneventful, with just a couple minor squawks to correct.

The plane is a mostly stock quickbuild with a few common mods like the JD Air canopy latch. It’s got an IO-390-EXP119, Hartzell prop, Garmin panel and a Classic Aero Designs interior. Building it was by far the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. I promised myself before I started that I wouldn’t quit and the effort would be worth it.

And it was!

I learned a lot of new skills along the way. The RV Grin is real, and I had one yesterday! I could never have accomplished this without the unending encouragement and love from my wife Lisa. She was my biggest cheerleader, and I think she was more excited than me when I flew it. Looking forward to getting through Phase I testing so we can use it for fun and visiting family.

For everyone out there still building, keep going! It’ll be worth it.
