Olafur Arnason and four others’s RV-8 | Reykjavik, Iceland RV-8 #82488

Olafur Arnason’s RV-8 (with the help of four others) flew for the first time after almost two decades of building. Here’s more:

First flight completed on a clear crispy day in Iceland. The construction took only 19 years and 3,000 hours logged. Yeah, building was slow, but we got the job done. We had a few garages, storages and finally a hangar to complete, and voila!

The aircraft is powered by IO-360 A1B6 engine with Whirlwind 3-blade constant speed propeller. E-mags deliver the sparks. Instruments (display) and engine monitoring are from Dynon.

The engine had gone through some repair and overhaul so there will be no slow flight for the first flights. Climbed to 4,000 feet and did a few long stretches. At 80% power TAS 175 knots. The airplane was very stable in the air and no trim adjustment was needed.

Takeoff and landing was smooth and ground handling was easy.

Thanks Van’s.
