John Salley’s RV-12iS | Ashland, VA RV-12iS #121644
John Salley didn’t let the distance from home to build location deter him, resulting in a newly flying RV-12iS. Here’s the story:
I built the plane 4 hours from my home, at my son’s shop in Wilmington, NC. I made the trip every 3-4 weeks, usually for 4-5 intense 12-14 hour days each time. Even with several setbacks, the build was essentially completed in August 2025, and we trailered the plane to its new home at KPTB (Dinwiddie County, VA, Airport), which was the nearest field that I could find a hangar. It was ready for its airworthiness inspection the first week of October, but that was delayed by the government shutdown. It was completed this past week, with first flight today. All went smoothly, with only a few minor squawks. Looking forward to completion of Phase I!
