Dan Frazer’s RV-12iS | Mason, OH RV-12iS #121322
Dan Frazier’s “fun project” during COVID just became an airplane: Dan tells the full story:
Like many others, my build started as a COVID project. Seemed like an impossible thing to build an airplane, but I figured the empennage kit could be a fun project amid a lonely time of social distancing. Worst case, I could find someone else to sell it to if I determined it wasn’t for me. It didn’t take much time building to realize I loved the challenge and gratification of seeing something take shape. I was hooked in less than a week of building.
Fast forward nearly 5 years, our family grew as we welcomed our second child in the middle of the build, moved to a new home (more garage space!), and made countless new RV friends. With my wife and I both working full time and raising two young kids, I managed to devote about 4 hours a week to the build (on average), and the plane slowly took shape.
Lots of fond memories along the way, most all documented in my build log. I highly recommend maintaining a build log for any builder out there. You can always look back and see what things looked like since a lot will be concealed when the plane is finished. I tried to include pictures of our kids helping and it’s nice to see how they grew throughout the build.
The first flight was an indescribable feeling which reminded me of my first solo flight during training. A special moment I’ll never forget. I’m truly grateful to have this opportunity and look forward to sharing the plane with friends and family.
