Van’s Aircraft Operational Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Due to mandatory quarantine requirements, Van’s is currently experiencing temporary staffing shortages in our kit crating and receiving departments, which impacts our ability to prepare and crate empennage/tail, wing, fuselage, powerplant, and finishing kits through January 28th. Customers with pending shipments of those kits will be delayed for that period of time.

Van’s is open and is accepting orders for all of our products and kits via our web site and phone. Our parts and accessories shipping department remains open and is actively processing and shipping orders for everything that’s not a crated kit. In addition, our terrific front-office team is also hard at work. Our offices remain closed to the public for the time being.

Van’s currently remains closed for any walk-in’s, tours, and demos.
You may place an order either on the phone or online and ask for a will-call pick-up, in which case our staff will make arrangements for no-contact pick-up.

We hope, of course, to be able to reopen again soon for customers to come into the building. We appreciate your understanding and patience in the meanwhile.

Much of our Oregon headquarters staff continues to work-from-home in order to ensure we are best protecting our team. We are taking orders, performing phone support, building aircraft parts, and shipping kits.

Because most of our business staff are now operating away from the office, some functions may take a little longer than usual.

The following changes and limitations continue to be in place while we work under limited in-house staffing:

  • Will call orders for kits and parts are available only on a limited, pre-arranged basis. Please order and call ahead to arrange. Details are below.
  • We cannot combine multiple orders – they will need to be shipped as ordered, so please place your orders accordingly.
  • We cannot modify orders once they’ve received (last-minute additions and deletions).
  • Returns will be processed on a time available basis and may be delayed due to limited staffing.

We are doing our best to keep things running as close to “normal” as possible, and the above operational limitations help us facilitate that.

In the interest of providing a healthy and safe environment for our staff and customers, and given the recent virus outbreak, Van’s Aircraft has made the following temporary changes to its operations.

Our factory/office location in Aurora, Oregon is closed to outside visitors and customer pick-ups. If you have parts or a kit you need to pick up, it is important that you call us ahead of time to coordinate a workable date and time at 503-678-6545. Be sure to have your order number ready ahead of time so you can provide it to us when you call. we are often able to provide a no-contact pickup, but only if pre-arranged. If you arrive early, you should expect you will have to wait until the arranged time. We’re sorry we have to take these measures, but it’s the best way to ensure the safest operations at this point in time. We hope to be able to reopen sometime soon so we can see you and say hi when you come by!

We’ve instituted additional internal cleaning and distancing practices for employees to follow, and we’ve provided supplies to enable this.

We hope to be able to re-open for regular public operations sometime soon, including for order pick-up’s, tours, and demo flights. There are, however, unpredictable times. Therefore, we’ve also been planning for a number of potential scenarios that could affect business operations at our Oregon headquarters, should any additional government mandates be issued that in some way restrict the movement of people in our area. If we become aware of any new condition that would create a questionable safety environment, rest assured that we’ll take any necessary action to protect our employees and customers.

The vast majority of people who come to our headquarters location travel from outside the region and come into relatively close contact with our employees – often in very close quarters such as airplane cockpits and face-to-face during factory tours. We have implemented the following changes to our visitor operations, which will impact our customer interaction with the intent of making sure we do what we can to proactively prevent virus spread:

  • We have suspended factory tours until further notice and will review this decision in the future
  • We have suspended the scheduling of demo flights and modified our transition training calendars until further notice and will make a determination when to resume as the situation evolves. At this time, west coast transition training with Mike Seager can be scheduled (contact Mike if you wish to schedule his time), and east coast transition training remains on hold.

Our goal is to limit and prevent COVID-19 infections among our staff members. There have been significant numbers of cases in our county and the surrounding area, and we have implemented guidelines that direct any employee who develops symptoms or comes into contact with infected individuals to stay home, contact us to form a plan, and follow the state and CDC instructions. The Van’s Aircraft team is an extended family, and we’ve put measures in place to ensure any affected employees will have medical leave options to allow them to be compensated for missed work hours due to this virus. In addition, we have enabled employees whose job functions will allow them to work from home to do so, in order to significantly limit the number of people at our facility and to best protect at-risk employees and families.

Again, the health and safety of our customers and employees is our top priority and we’re committed to doing our part to help keep you safe and healthy while ensuring we can produce and deliver the best aircraft kits in the world.
