So, you're ready to order your RV-9 or RV-9A kit! Well, we're just about as excited as you are! This form will allow you to choose which kit(s) you want to order and will allow you to specify which options you want as well.
When you fill out this form, it calcualtes the estimated toal price of your kit. That estimate is based on the assumption that when your order is executed, there are no changes. Placing an order establishes the "place in line" for your kit, as we typically provide kits and parts on a first-come, first-served basis. Your deposit of 25% of the order total is calculated based on the estimated price from this form, regardless of changes unless major additions are made.
When you complete this order form and submit it, our Kit Order Department will receive the form and will contact you to arrange any details as well as collection of your 25% deposit. They'll also be able to help you with any needed adjustments and to discuss things like shipping and any other questions you might have.
The "RV-9A" model is a tricycle-gear configuration, with a nose wheel. The "RV-9" model is a conventional/taildragger gear configuration. We'll configure this form based on your choice.
If you choose QuickBuild in this section, you are ordering both the wing and the fuselage kits now, to be delivered as QuickBuild kits.
If you want to order only one of the kits today, or if you want to order only one of them as QB and the other as standard kit (for example, you want a QB fuselage but standard-build wings, or vice-versa), don't select this option. You'll be able to specifiy the QuickBuild option below for either of those kits.
Note: Preview plans are a required purchase before beginning construction. They preview plans contain important introductory and planning information which the builder needs to be aware of before starting on the first kit. Electronic plans, delivered on a small USB "thumb drive," may be purchased for that purpose. Theses are provided in a searchable, printable PDF format that can be viewed on a variety of devices.
Includes wings and fuselage
Wing panel 80% completed at the factory. All parts primed before assembly. Fuel tanks finished, ailerons, flaps ready to install. Builder must rivet one wing skin, install wingtip, controls, fairings. Lights, fuel senders not included.
Note that this QB add-on cost is in addition to Standard Wing Kit price.
Arm with float which senses fuel level. Works with Van’s gauges and many other resistance gauges. Fits standard cover plates in wing kit. Includes gaskets. Two supplied: one for each wing.
Fuselage 75% assembled at factory. All parts primed before assembly. Builder must complete interior of cabin, instrument panel and forward deck. If Wing Kit is not ordered, some additional components must be purchased with the QB Fuselage.
Note that this QB add-on cost is in addition to Standard Fuselage Kit price.
While there is no difference in cost when ordering the fuselage kit components that affect the canopy (you'll acxtually get the canopy in the finishing kit), we do need to know whether you're building a tip-up or slider canopy on your airplane, so we can ship you the correct fuselage parts.
In June 2019, a new RV-9A engine mount and nose gear design option was released. This new-design system is the default option for new kit orders. You may choose to install the original/legacy gear option instead if you wish.
The "new" system is similar in design to the nose gear design on our newer RV-10 and RV-14A models. It incorporates an elastomer shock absorbing system and pivoting mechanism at the attachment point of a welded tube gear leg, and weighs a bit more than the original system.
Compatibility note: The new design is available on the RV-9A only when configured with a Dynafocal I (D1) engine mount and the following Lycoming engines:
O-320 with vertical induciton (O-320-D1A or -D2G)
IO-320 with vertical induction (IO-320-D1A)
The "original" system design uses a fixed, solid steel Wittman-style nose gear leg. It is lighter than the new system, and costs somewhat less.
Van's Kit ordering team will review your order and work with you to help check for compatibiity. Due to the wide variety of engines available, we cannot guarantee fit compatibility with engines we do not sell.
In order to send you the correct spinner, we need you to let us know what propeller you plan to use. If you dont need a spinner from Van's, choose "No spinnner" in the list below.
Please specify the engine you intend to instal below, so we can provide the correct engine cowl for your build.
Note: You are not ordering your engine on this form. Rather, you are specifying which engine will be used so we can ship you the proper finishing kit parts for your configuration. Please use the engine order forms available on this site when you are ready to order and engine from Van's.
Note: Van’s has no suitable cowling or firewall fwd kit for the fuel injected IO-320-D1A engine.
Other engine suppliers produce a wide variety of engines that may or may not be physically compatible with parts and accessories used on Lycoming models.
To provide us the information we need, you must complete this ENGINE INDENTIFICATION section with items that describe your engine. Without this information we cannot accept or process your order. If you are installing an engine that is not compatible with Lycoming style mounts or cowl, you may delete these items for credit. The exact amount of the credit will be determined by Van’s.
It is the customer’s responsibility to provide accurate information. Van’s Aircraft, Inc. is not responsible for costs incurred replacing or returning incorrectly ordered parts.

Note: Dynafocal 2 (D2) mounts are no longer being manufactured
Please provide any notes, details or requests that will help us understand and process your order. For example, if you'll be picking up from Van's youself, or if you're using a special shipping service and don't need crating, you have additions or deletions you wish to request from a kit, etc.
Note: These charges are for crating/boxing your kit(s) and are not shipping charges, which are determined later.
If you do not need crating (such as when picking up your kit as a will-call order or when using a specialty shipper), please specify that in the "Kit Order Notes" field above. Our team will adjust crating charges on your order accordingly when they process your order.
Your customer number was assigned with the empennage kit. If you don't have one yet, just enter "NONE" in this field and we will assign you one. If you're not sure, we hope you'll look it up as it helps us process your order as quickly as possible. But if absolutely necessary you can tell us you forgot, and we will look for it by hand.
