James A. Walker’s RV-10 | Birmingham, AL RV-10 #40007
James wrote to tell us about the first flight of his new RV-10. Congrats to James!
We purchased the kit from an individual who had built the empennage section in Colorado. We completed the wings, fuselage and finishing working on it in our spare time (as funds allowed). I am an A&P with heavy structural repair background, now corporate pilot. This is my second RV to build. I built a RV-7A (N196VA) that flew in 4/06 and was on the cover of the RVator that year.
The first flight was excellent with no surprises, and flew perfectly as a Van’s does. We purchased a new engine from Van’s and a prop from South Coast propellers. Our avionics is Garmin G3X touch with Garmin GTN 750 and GMC307 autopilot.
I have time in RV-6’s, -7, -7A, -8A and -10’s. And I give check outs in RVs for insurance purposes to individuals who have purchased an RV.
