Constant Speed 2-Blade and 3-Blade Models
DescriptionMT propellers are manufactured by MT-Propeller Entwicklung GmbH of Atting, Germany. They are used on many certified and experimental airplanes all over the world.
The blades feature a plastified beech wood core, wrapped in several layers of composite (glass fiber/carbon fiber) depending on model. A stainless steel leading edge protects against erosion. The natural composite design of the blades eliminates corrosion and allows unlimited blade life. Hubs are machined from aerospace aluminum. Propellers include a kevlar spinner assembly.
Pitch change is by either an electric or a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system is preferred, because the pitch change is about 6 times faster than the electric. However, if your engine is not compatible with a hydraulic system, the electric constant speed gives you the only alternative to get a full constant speed system. Both propeller systems are fully FAA certified. Electric props are NOT recommended for aerobatics.
Both two-blade and three-blade models are available, with either electric or hydraulic pitch change. Blades are white with red tips or gray and white tips, spinners are painted in white.
Van's Aircraft, Inc. has not had the opportunity to test all MT models, so it is up to the customer to determine the proper propeller for his/her engine and aircraft. The MT-Propeller 3-blade propeller models have no restricted rpm range on 4 cylinder Lycoming engines. Vibration surveys were also conducted with electronic ignition and high compression pistons.
